Learning

At Hopetown school, we teach the NSW curriculum and offer many different subjects to support each student’s learning. We know that development of skills in literacy and numeracy are the building blocks for learning and for everyday life. Our teachers use effective teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals.

Why choose us for your child’s learning?

Hopetown School addresses the academic, social and emotional needs of all its students.

The school culture, community and learning environment is based on developing connections, empowering individuals to succeed and thrive with the expectations that they will become active citizens and socially and emotionally literate members of society.

Hopetown School endeavours to provide a therapeutic environment with a multi-disciplinary approach to individual need. The primary purpose of enrolment at Hopetown is to reengage students with the curriculum by supporting emotional, cognitive, physical, spiritual and social wellbeing.

Students are able to achieve their ROSA at the end of Year 10 and progress through to HSC in Yr 11 and 12. A focus for Hopetown is to prepare students with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to participate effectively in the community. Our transition to post school pathways process involves ensuring parents/carers and students are fully informed of the options available to them post-school. This is done through discussions and goal setting as part of the ITP process, which may include attending a Careers Expo, visits by parents/carers and students to a range of post-school service providers and supporting students to spend time engaged in work experience prior to leaving school.

We continue to develop strong links between school and service providers to ensure students and their families are fully prepared and get the best possible start to their post-school life.

Hopetown encourages parent and carers to play an active role in the school and their child’s educational journey with us. This enables a strong and collaborative community voice. Parents and carers are welcome to attend the school site at any time, are able to schedule face to face, online or teleconference meetings with staff and are invited to events and celebration days throughout the school year.

Due to the nature of our widespread school community, parent and carer meetings are held termly online to enable consultation and collaboration to occur. This provides an opportunities to review the school excellence plan, update parents and carers and discuss new ideas for continual improvement of the school.

The Sentral for Parents APP, termly newsletters, school website, Facebook page and regular communication occurs between the school and community. There are strong community partnerships with a range of local businesses who support work ready placements and employment opportunities for senior students.
